AOSIS

Alliance of Small Island States. An ad hoc coalition of small islands and low-lying coastal countries, that share common positions on climate change and are particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels. It functions mainly as a lobby and negotiating group for small island developing states (SIDS), within UNFCCC negotiations. AOSIS represents 44 island and coastal countries around the world, including 28 per cent of developing countries and 20per cent of the UN's total members. AOSIS have called for limiting global warming to 1.5°C,  which they argue may be the only way for their countries to survive rising sea levels.
