ICAO

International Civil Aviation Organization. A UN specialized agency created in 1944 with the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. ICAO has been working actively towards developing global solutions to address greenhouse gas emissions from international aviation. ICAO provides inputs to the UNFCCC process, including information relevant to emissions from fuel used for international aviation. Through the submission of member states' action plans on CO2 emission reductions, states identify and communicate their mitigation measures and potential assistance needs, allowing for the ICAO to address those needs (by making funding available) and assess the global progress made towards ICAOs aspirational goals.
