In-depth review. A process by which an Annex I country's national communication (NC), or implementation of the Convention and/or the Kyoto Protocol, is technically assessed by international teams of experts. In-depth reviews of NCs are coordinated by the UNFCCC Secretariat. The review of each NC usually involves a desk-based study and an in-country visit, aiming to provide a comprehensive, technical assessment of the implementation of Annex I countries commitments. The in-depth review results in a report that typically expands on and updates the NC. The in-depth review reports aim to facilitate the COPs assessment of the implementation of commitments by Annex I Parties.
