IMO

International Maritime Organization. A specialized UN agency with responsibility for the safety and security of international shipping and for preventing marine pollution by ships. It sets the global standards for shipping regulations, and has provided obligatory measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping. Increasing emissions from maritime transport (as a result of growth in international trade) requires close cooperation between the IMO and the UNFCCC.
