Nationally appropriate mitigation actions. NAMAs state the intentions of developing countries to reduce their GHG emissions,  and includes any policy, programme, project, regulation or financial initiative that reduces emissions. There are national NAMAs (formal submissions of mitigation objectives prepared by governments) and individual NAMAs (detailed actions or group of actions designed to help a country meet its mitigation objectives). NAMAs are recorded in a registry to attract international support, facilitating the matching of finance, technology and capacity-building, and to recognize other NAMAs. The registry was set up following a decision made at COP16 in Cancun.
