Subsidiary Body for Implementation. A permanent subsidiary body to the UNFCCC, established by the COP/CMP. The SBI supports the work of the COP and the CMP by assessing and reviewing the effective implementation of the Convention and the Kyto Protocol. It makes recommendations on policy and implementation issues to the COP and, if requested, to other bodies as well. It also advises the COP on budgetary and administrative issues. The SBI works together with the SBSTA on cross-cutting issues that touch on both their areas of expertis, such as capactity building and vulnerability to climate change in developing countries; transfers of environmentally-sound technologies; the Kyoto Protocol Mechanisms; and co-ordination of support for REDD+.
