A financial instrument established under the UNFCCC to finance adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries that are Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, and particulary vulnerable in meeting costs of adaptation. The Fund is financed with a share of proceeds from Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activities as well as through voluntary contributions of donor governments. The share of proceeds from CDM amounts to 2% of Certified Emission Reductions (see CER) issued for a CDM project activity. The Fund finances projects and programs whose main and explicit aim is to adapt and increase climate resilience.
